PANAGIA CHALKEON

Panagia Chalkeon | When light reveals history.

The lighting design project by Reflect Lights at the Church of Panagia Chalkeon, one of Thessaloniki’s most significant Byzantine monuments and part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, has now been completed. From the very beginning, our aim was to highlight the church’s architecture and precious frescoes, while respecting its history, character, and continuing role as a place of worship.

The most rewarding moment came when we saw the figures in the frescoes come to life through light. Expressions, colours, and details that had previously been difficult to distinguish became more visible. For us, this is the essence of architectural lighting: not to draw attention to itself, but to help us discover what truly deserves to be seen.
