ANATOLIA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
The architectural lighting proposal for the new building complex of the Anatolia Elementary School was a multidimensional design challenge. The shape of the building, with a clear referential architectural language, is inspired by and adapts the primitive childhood depiction of a house in a painting and composes a complex of building volumes, in a village-style way. The choice of the simple geometric shapes allows for the formation of large, transparent openings, the diversity of external views and internal spaces, as well as the inclusion of the surrounding space with the logic of domestic courtyards. The retractable roof with point openings, the pluralistic geometry of the interior layout and the functional requirements of a modern educational institution were the main challenges that the architectural lighting study was asked to solve. To these was added the need to achieve the high goals set by the LEED & WELL specification standards, further upgrading the functional performance of the lighting study. One of the proposed projects of the Greek participation for Mies van der Rohe Award 2024.
